In its second anniversary, the Kotor-Lovćen cable car marks a notable milestone as it welcomes over 650,000 visitors to date, with a projected 50% rise in passenger numbers in 2025 compared to the previous year. The optimism remains strong that the one-millionth rider could arrive as early as next year, a milestone that many generations nurtured into reality.
Speaking amid a period of national challenges, Ura Civil Movement Leader and former Prime Minister Dritan Abazović offered a morale-boosting update on the project. He emphasized that the cable car stands as a symbol of resilience and progress, reflecting the country’s ongoing efforts in tourism and economy.
“Montenegro Tourism is the biggest project,” Abazović remarked, recalling that groundwork for the endeavor was laid on 13 July 2022. He noted that the initiative—one of the most active roles he has played—was completed in record time and began operation within a year. Describing the cable car as the most significant project in Montenegro’s history, he highlighted its role in boosting state income and promoting tourism, viewing it as another major win for the nation’s economy following the Kamenari-Lepatan ferry operation.
Abazović also described the project as an exemplary model for national interests, stating that its impact extends beyond economics to privilege management, VAT considerations, employment, and branding the country on the world stage. He praised the firefighters and volunteers who supported the region through fires and urged a continued focus on fair and developmental avenues after the challenging period. Concluding his remarks, he affirmed Montenegro’s capability to deliver such initiatives and noted that the cable car continues to showcase Montenegro’s potential every day, 365 days a year.
